Professor C. Vyvyan Howard

Emeritus professor in the Centre for Molecular Biosciences, University of Ulster, Coleraine, UK. He is a medically qualified toxico-pathologist who has specialised in developmental toxicology, using stereology to detect ‘minimal change pathology’. Past President of both the Royal Microscopical Society (1996-98) and the International Society for Stereology (1992-96). He was General Editor of the Journal of Microscopy (1984-91) and edited many of the design-based stereology papers cited in this book.

Professor Matt G. Reed

Matt was a visiting Professor at the Bioimaging Research Group in the Centre for Molecular Biosciences at the University of Ulster (2005-2015). He has been a personal member of the research council of the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). Matt obtained his PhD in microstructural quantification from the University of Liverpool and was for some years the global head of the Advanced Measurement & Data Modelling platform for Unilever R&D, he now works for Unilever as an Open Innovation Director.
